Laura Bonnefous
Laureate of the 2021 Grand Prix Photography & Sustainability – an award created by Eyes on Talents and Paris Good Fashion – Laura Bonnefous presented her third book, Souffle Aride, published by Éditions Odyssée, last year. Exploring and understanding a place through its colours, textures and sensibilities lies at the heart of Laura Bonnefous’s photographic work. In Souffle Aride, the photographer explores the transformations of a unique territory: the city of Duqm, in the heart of the Sultanate of Oman. Nestled between desert and sea, with a nomadic past and a spectacular rise, Duqm becomes the setting for a visual reflection on time, modernity and a changing world. "Until recently, Duqm was a modest fishing village on the Arabian Sea, before experiencing rapid growth. The region is currently undergoing significant changes. I aim to explore and revisit this unique sense of time, these shifts in time and space. My research draws on the textures, folds, details and hues of these lunar landscapes and the men and women who inhabit them. I set the infinite vastness against the lines of faces, architecture against flowing drapery, to create a sensitive and powerful series." Laura Bonnefous
