Pixy Liao

Eyes on Talents member, Pixy Liao, is participating in the PhotoBrussels Festival, which is celebrating its tenth edition this year with a program of 52 exhibitions. For a whole month, the European capital pulsates to the rhythm of photography, and Pixy Liao's work can be seen at the Stieglitz19 gallery. Pixy Liao is a Chinese artist and photographer now based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work explores themes of gender roles, intimacy, power dynamics, and cultural identity. She is best known for her long-term and on-going photographic project, Experimental Relationship (2007-present), which challenges traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity. Liao often features herself and her partner in staged, intimate photographs. Her images, both playful and provocative, reverse or blur gender expectations. Seemingly spontaneous yet carefully composed, they explore what it means to love, connect, and take control of your own image.
