Laurel Parker Book

Eyes on Talents member, Laurel Parker Book, presented Folded by Hand, a collection of personal creations at the Biennale Émergences 2025 at the CN D in Pantin. Alongside their activity as a deisgn, bookbinding studio and publishing house, Laurel Parker and Paul Chamard create delicate pieces combining Japanese techniques and Western know-how in their workshop in Romainville. It was after a residency at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, Japan in 2019 that the duo developed a work around paper. Folded by Hand, explores washi, Japanese paper, transformed by hand through traditional treatments to produce decorative objects and surfaces that can be used in interior design or architecture. Lightweight and translucent, paper offers unique qualities for use in space. During the biennial, we were able to admire unique, textured objects that redefine the boundaries of paper, such as Tetrapak, small volumes created from waxed paper, Sudares, paper blinds, and Kimonos made from folded and waxed paper.
